If you’re after a luxury high-fashion injection for your next trip to Florence, a visit to the ultra-chic is a must. Opened in 2012,  museum pays homage to ‘s history and craft, honouring the 90th birthday of the iconic Italian fashion house.

“Gucci Museo” is located inside Florence’s 14th-century Palazzo della Mercanzia on Piazza della Signoria – a hop and a skip away from the famous . The building’s renovation was overseen by Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini, who created a space that would reflect the brand’s sartorial values. Inside are two permanent exhibitions, including the historical archive of Gucci’s prêt-à-porter collection with accessories and photographs documenting the brand’s history – from the Gucci-upholstered car from the 1970s, Hilary Swank’s Oscar gown to the hilarious monogrammed scuba-diving flippers. Over the top much?

The museum spans 3 floors over 1715sqm and is divided into four thematic rooms inspired by Gucci’s motifs and symbols. On the ground floor you can find a giftshop and Icon Store that sells limited-editions products designed by Giannini. For my money, however, the most exciting part of the museum are the Gucci Caffè & Restaurant and the fantastic bookstore. Design porn at it’s best.
